The Ragin' Cagins were up by 11 points with 5:48 left in the second half when FIU (4-13, 1-4) rallied behind guards Jeremy Allen and Phil Taylor to force overtime. Allen led the Panthers with 22 points, hitting four 3-pointers, while Taylor scored 19 points, sinking three treys. Trailing 66-61 with 2:42 left in regulation, the Panthers tied it on two free throws and a 3-point basket by Taylor, then a layup by Brandon Moore with 0:06 left in regulation.
In overtime, Louisiana fell behind 73-71 with 3:06 left in the extra session after a Deric Hill three-pointer. Josh Brown countered with triple 17 seconds later to give the Cajuns the lead for good.
Darshawn McClellan stole an entry pass from Hill with 2:05 on the clock and Kadeem Coleby grabbed a second offensive rebound on the other end and converted a layup with 1:35 remaining for a 79-73 edge.
The Cajuns would close the game out at the charity stripe, knocking down 8-of-12 attempts to seal the victory and keep the team from suffering back-to-back conference losses at the Cajundome.
Darshawn McClellan scored a game-high 28 points and Josh Brown posted 23 points and 10 to lead the Cajuns in scoring.
