Preston Impresses at UL Camp

Scout #59 MLB X'zavier Preston was one of the most impressive athletes to participate in Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns Senior Camp recently. The (5'11,232) standout defensive athlete talked to the Cajun Redzone about his camp experience at UL.

X'zavier Preston hit his last two college football camps of the summer recently visiting UL and Louisiana Tech. Preston recorded 92 tackles and four interceptions (with two pick-sixes) in 2011, helping Evangel Christian to advance to 2A semifinals in the state playoffs. His performance at UL's camp raised some eyebrows amongst camp attendees and coaches.

"I enjoyed the ULL camp," Preston stated. "I visited the campus during their "Junior Day" so this was my second time visiting Lafayette. Coach Hudspeth took me a Jammerio Gross around the complex and his office. I really like Coach Hudspeth, he is a great guy and talks to you like you are already playing for him."

While Preston enjoyed visiting with Coach Hudspeth, he was there on a mission to show the coaches what he could do against the competition at the camp.

"They took us through warm-ups and stretching, then we went on to run forty's," X'zavier said. "I ran a 4.6 in the forty and I think that surprised some people. Then we went into coverage drills and I did pretty well against some of the best athletes in the camp. I think my overall performance in the camp showed them what I'm capable of doing on the football field. They seem to be impressed as well because they offered me."

After the UL camp, Preston hit the Louisiana Tech camp the next day in Ruston.

"They told me they like me and want to see more film on me," Preston stated. They weren't ready to offer, but they are going to stay on me while and watch some film of the first few games of the season. They ran a good camp and they have a good program."

X'zavier now holds offers from Houston, UL, Oregon State and Memphis.
