Focus 2014: Jerrell Jackson

The Haynesville Golden Tornado reached the state finals last weekend and the future looks great for head coach David Franklin with players like junior Jerrell Jackson (QB/DB) returning in 2013...

Jerrell Jackson was a highly-effective quarterback and safety this fall for Haynesville, which is one of Louisiana's most tradition-rich programs.

"I try to leave everything on the field and be a hard worker," said Jackson, a 6-foot-1, 175-pounder.

"I grew up watching my family play in the state championship, and I wanted to do it."

Although Haynesville was nipped in the finals by top-seeded Ouachita Christian, Jackson had his customary excellent effort and as a result, the junior was named his team's Most Outstanding Player after rushing for 42 yards, returning a kick 32 yards and passing for 56 yards in a 20-8 defensive struggle.

"I always thank the Lord for blessings and pray that I'll do my best," the mature young man stated.

Jackson expects to play defensive back and return kicks on the next level.

Oklahoma, LSU, Nicholls State and the Ragin' Cajuns in Lafayette are among his early schools of interest.

Jackson rushed for 1,000-plus yards with 20 touchdowns and intercepted seven passes for Haynesville.
