Hoggins Talks UL Commitment

The Cajun's recruiting staff continues look for speed in the 2013 Recruiting Class. Monarch HS (Fla) speedy athlete Darius Hoggins (5-8, 175) was the latest athlete to give the UL staff his verbal commitment.

Monarch HS athlete Darius Hoggins is one of the most elusive and speedy athletes in South Florida. The (5-8,175) Miami native was recently named All-Broward 8A-6A First Team Athlete after rushing for 1,191 yards, 16 TDs and 2 kick returns for scores this past season. After receiving early interest from West Virginia, Oregon and others, Hoggins made a trip to Louisiana this past weekend and committed to the Ragin' Cajuns.

"They just made me feel like family," Hoggins stated. "The players and coaches were great to me, and I felt like it was just a good fit for me. It was my first time on campus and I really enjoyed it."

Hoggins visited with the staff Saturday and watched video of the Cajuns 2012 season and offense. Where does he fit in on the offensive side of the football?

"We sat down and watched the video of the offense and 2012 season," Darius mentioned. "They showed me how they would get me the football in the slot, like #9 did for them this past season. The offense fits my strengths and allows you to make plays in the open field."

While Darius had never visited the UL campus until this weekend, he did know about the Ragin' Cajuns bowl appearances.

"I watched them on television when they came down and play Florida," said Hoggins. "They handled Florida pretty good until the end of the game; they were impressive. I also watched them in the New Orleans Bowl so when Coach Sanders asked me to come in on a visit, we came in. My mom is okay with me playing out of state and she backed my decision. I don't plan on visiting any other schools and I'm just happy to make my decision now and get it over with."

Darius Hoggins stated that he has not decided on a major, but has attained eligibility to qualify his freshman season.
