The Central Michigan Chippewas took advantage of a Cajun error in the first inning, jumping out to an early five-run lead and holding the UL bats silent for the rest of the game.
The Ragin' Cajuns (3-1) misplay of a sacrifice bunt attempt down the third base line two batters into the game led to a run, then a three-run home run later in the inning tacked on additional unearned runs as the Chippewas (1-3) grabbed momentum early.
Rick Dodridge held the Louisiana bats in check, allowing just one run and scattering six hits over his six innings of work.
Ryan Wilson got his first start on the mound for the Ragin Cajuns, allowing six runs, only two earned.
Freshman Joe Robbins posted a bases-loaded RBI single in the fourth inning off of Dodridge, but the Chippewas starter came back with scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh before giving way to relievers Taylor Lehnert and Blake Louscher who held the Cajuns to two hits over the final three innings.
"Give them credit they got the big hit and put up some runs on the board very early," head coach Tony Robichaux said. "We staked our hitters with too many runs too early."
Louisiana returns to action on Wednesday against Northwestern State at "Tigue" Moore Field.
