Dion Ray and his teammates have gotten off to a tough start to the 2014 season, going 1-4 into non-district play. Ray's play of the field has continued to improve as opponents have schemed to stop the 3-Star athlete every game. The senior quarterback rushed 20 times for 111 yards and a touchdown, while completing 28-of-47 passes for 295 yards and a touchdown with one interception against Edna Karr last week. Dion believes he and his teammates are really close to putting everything together and looks forward to opening play in District 8-5A against Higgins this week.
"We've played a tough non-district schedule this season and have struggled to put things together," Ray stated. "We play two quarters well or a half of game and we just haven't been able to put a complete game together of good play. It's little things here or there that hurt us, but I believe in my teammates and we are really close to putting it all together. We open district (8-5A) play this week against Higgins and our district is wide-open. Every team in our district is pretty much trying to put things together right now and has some things to work on."
Dion Ray is a Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns commitment and he believes they have the talent to turn their season around as well.
"They have the talent to turn things around at UL," Dion said. "They have a lot of guys that have won over the past few seasons and won bowl games as well. They just haven't gotten things together yet and its just a matter of time before they play a complete game to turn the season around. I'm going to try and get back up there for the Tuesday night game against Arkansas State."
Dion is a big college football fan and enjoys watching the big games when he has time and talked with us about the upsets this past weekend.
"Yea, this past weekend was crazy," Dion stated. "There are some good teams that still have to play each other before they start talking playoffs, that is why I don't listen to that stuff this early in the season. There are some big matchups that haven't played out in the SEC and Big XII, so I don't see how people are talking about the NCAA Playoffs right now."
