Cajuns Ink Two For 2015-16

LAFAEYTTE, La. – Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns men's basketball coach Bob Marlin announced Friday the signing of Jerekius Davis and Jevonlean "Jay" Hedgeman as additions to roster for the upcoming 2015-16 season.

Davis, a versatile 6-6 forward, was one of the top players in Mississippi during his prep career, leading Provine High School to the Class 6A state semifinals each of the past three seasons. A native of Jackson, Davis averaged 24.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per game as a senior in earning second team all-state honors under head coach Otis Gaines.

He was a third team all-state choice after a junior season that saw him average 18.4 points and 10.9 rebounds per game and was a preseason Dandy Dozen selection entering the 2014-15 campaign, a listing of the top 12 players in Mississippi.

"Jerekius is a combo forward that brings strength, scoring and rebounding to our team," Marlin said. "He is a versatile player who shoots it well, has a strong upside and had a great career in a winning program at the high school level."

The Cajuns will also add Hedgeman, a 6-7 athlete who can play at either forward spot. Hedgeman led San Jacinto College to 51 total wins over the last two seasons, and most recently a 28-6 record and a No. 12 national ranking after a 2014-15 season that saw the program reach the Junior College National Tournament for the first time since 2006 under head coach Scott Gerrander.

He started 31 games last season for San Jacinto, averaging 10.1 points and a team-best 7.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore. That came on the heels of a true freshman season that saw him start 26 games and average 7.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 1.8 assists while leading the team by hitting 77 percent of his shots from the foul line.

Prior to his time at San Jacinto, Hedgeman was a two-time all-district choice at Pearland High School (TX), leading the Oilers to the playoffs twice in the state's largest classification.

"Jay is a very versatile forward with length who can score and rebound the basketball," Marlin said. "He is another guy with a lot of potential and is both good defensively and is a good shooter. He also a proven winner who has had a lot of success at winning programs, starting at Pearland High school for Coach Steve Buckelew before taking San Jacinto to Hutchinson to the NJCAA Tournament."
