Shawn Long Set to Return for Senior Season

Season ticket holders and members of the Rebounders Club were greeted with big news last night during the Men's Basketball programs 2015 banquet. Coach Marlin announced to those in attendance that junior forward Shawn Long will return to the team for his senior season.

"“He texted me this (Thursday) morning and said, ‘Coach, are you in your office?’” Marlin said. “He came by and we talked, and he asked if we wanted him back, if he could stay and finish. That was good news.”

Shawn Long has been the center piece of the Men's Basketball team during the teams last two season's post season play. Long averaged 16.4 points and 10.2 rebounds per game for the Cajuns his junior season and has averaged a double-double in each of his first three seasons with the Cajuns.

Long's decision to return for his senior season came just a few days away from the NBA's early entry deadline Sunday.

“We got the report back that the 18 teams had commented on where he would be. It was anywhere from the early second (round) to not drafted,” Marlin said. “Most were late second.

Longs return means that the Ragin' Cajuns roster is still in flux as that became more evident Friday at ESPN's Jeff Goodman announced the departure of junior forward Vieux Kande. The 6-8, 240-pound Kande has averaged 1.1 pts per game over his first two seasons in a Ragin' Cajuns uniform. But with the development of JC transfer Davonte Walker and true freshmen Bryce Washington, the Senegal native's playing diminished during the 2015 season.

The Cajun Redzone has also learned through our sources the 2015 signee Corey Davis from Lafayette is not close to attaining eligibility and will probably fall short leaving the Cajuns thin at the point guard position behind junior Jay Wright.

Look for Coach Marlin and his staff to add another late signee at the point guard position as several junior college showcases are scheduled this upcoming weekend.
