Gossett Adds His Name to List of Commitments

Ragin' Cajuns Head Coach Mark Hudspeth and his staff have a reputation for finding very athletic prospects that fit their schemes on both sides of the football. Pensacola High WR Calif Gossett (6'5,185) is the latest skilled athlete to join the list of 2016 Class commitments!

The Ragin' Cajuns Football program has had good luck locating quality athletes in and around the Pensacola/Mobile area in recent years. The Cajuns have unearth talent from Pensacola Pine Forest, Escambia, Washington and Pace in recent recruiting classes, and seem to have found another in Pensacola High product Calif Gossett. Gossett, attended the Ragin' Cajuns camp in Ocean Spring, Mississippi in June spoke to us last night about his decision to commit to Louisiana.

"I attended the football camp in Ocean Springs and afterwards Coach Hudspeth asked me if I was ready to commit," Gossett said. "I went home for a couple of days to think about it and decided to call Coach back to commit to the Ragin' Cajuns. I liked their program and Coach Rodrigue had been recruiting me, so it was the best fit for me to play college football. I looked around at some of the other local schools like South Alabama and ULL is just a better football program."

After watching his video on Hudl, Gossett does bear some resemblance to former Ragin' Cajun Ladarius Green, currently with the San Diego Chargers. Has Calif heard the comparison before from anyone?

"Since we are from the same area, I've heard some people say that I'm similar to him when he played in high school," Calif stated. "Coach Munoz told me that there are some similarities in our builds and the way we catch the football. But I'm going to play the "Z" receiver position in the Ragin' Cajuns offense, while he played in a number of positions for them."

Calif Gossett had one more camp he had planned on attending, the Ragin' Cajuns Football camp on July 18th on his Calendat, but he received a phone call Monday night that changed those plans.

"Coach Jimbo Fisher called me the other night and asked me to come to another Florida State camp so they could get another look at me," Gossett mentioned. "I went to a Florida State camp last month, but I had really heard much from them afterwards. I'm still going to make the trip down to Lafayette for the July 18th camp, we are just working out the transportation situation right now. After both camps, I will continue with my workouts with my teammates and we have the opportunity to play in the big 7-on-7 football tournament in Hoover, Alabama later in July."
