Brusly HS (La) offensive lineman Akkai Ward attended the Ragin' Cajuns first summer camp in Lafyatte in June. Ward joined some of Louisiana's top offensive linemen like Kellton Hollins , Collin Fountain and Taylor Fondal in the hopes of impressing offensive line Coach Mitch Rodrigue. Akkai Ward came away from the camp with an official offer from the Ragin' Cajuns and he didn't wait long to think about it.
"After the camp was over and we took the tour of the facilities, I thought hard about making a decision,' Ward stated. "When we were getting into the car, I told my mother that I want to go back in and tell them that I'm committing today. The program just felt like the right fit for me, I didn't see the need to wait on my decision."
"I camped with Louisiana Tech in an area camp and had met coaches from other programs, but I thought ULL was the right fit for me," Akkai said. "I really liked the coaches and the players there made me feel like part of the program right away. Coach Rodrigue is a good coach and I can learned some things from him. The program is also close to home and my family can watch me play college football."
With football camp set to begin at Brusly, Akkai Ward and his teammates are excited about playing for their new head coach Marc Brown. Brown was a former assistant at Brusly for the 2012-2013 season before leaving for the offensive coordinator position at Livonia High. Marc Brown had spent the 2014 season as offensive coordinator for the Class 3A state champion Livonia Wildcats.
"We're excited about the 2015 season," Ward stated. "He was at Livonia last season and they won a state championship. He is changing the offense to a spread similar to what he ran at Livonia last season. We ran the Wing-T under Coach Willis last season, so I expect a more wide open offense this season."For the latest of Ragin' Cajuns football recruiting, follow me on Twitter@LouisianaScout
