Cajuns Men's Basketball News & Notes

Louisiana men’s hoops signee Larenz Stalcup will not play for the Cajuns this season after he was unable to complete the necessary coursework over the summer to be eligible.

A 6-foot-11 junior forward/center, Stalcup signed with the Cajuns in April following a sophomore year at Snow College (Utah) in which he was all-conference and averaged 7.7 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game. The Colorado native, likely to redshirt this season if he had qualified given the team’s frontcourt depth, is expected to continue his college career elsewhere.

Another player absent from this season’s roster is Nicholls State transfer Amin Torres, who did not enroll this semester after publicly announcing his commitment to the Cajuns in May over Indiana State. The 6-1 guard averaged 10.1 points and 1.2 steals per game last season as a junior for the Colonels.

A surprise addition for the Cajuns this season is senior walk-on guard Matt Marlin, the son of head coach Bob Marlin. The 6-0 Marlin received a waiver to play this season after previously taking classes at the University of Texas. He played his prep ball at College Park High in The Woodland, Texas.

Garrett Capps, a 6-7, 240-pound freshman forward from Flower Mound High in Flower Mound, Texas, also has joined the Cajuns as a walk-on.

Earlier in the summer the Cajuns added another walk-on in former Centenary guard Jacob Broussard. The 5-10 Broussard averaged 5.9 points and shot 36 percent from 3 in 10 games for the Gents last season as a freshman. He was a two-time all-state selection at Lafayette Christian Academy while playing for ex-Cajuns standout Byron Starks.
