Chris Richard finished his senior year with an outstanding game against Acadiana High in the Class 5A Championship. The 6-0, 190-pound senior recorded 3 sacks and 10 tackles, showing college recruiters his versatility on the defensive side of the ball. Richard is now focused on the scheduled visits he set for colleges in January.
"I still can't believe that we won the state championship, it really has sunk in yet. But I have set up visits in January at ULL, Memphis and Louisiana Tech. I have one other that I just set, but I have to look at my calendar to tell you the other."
At 190-pounds coaches are not quite sure if Richard will play safety or linebacker in college, he still has some growth potential.
"They are all pretty much telling me that same thing that I could play at safety or end up eventually at linebacker depending on the system. It really doesn't matter to me, as long as I have the opportunity to play at the next level."
Chris's contact with UL has been through a familiar face to some of the Destrehan coaching staff, former head coach Tim Rebowe.
"Coach Rebowe used to be the head coach at Destrehan, so the coaching staff knows him well. He is recruiting Damaris Johnson and me, so I set my visit in January."
Richard is not sure that he will make a decision early or wait until he has completed all his visits.
"I'm going to go with the program that I feel the most comfortable with; the coaching staff, facilities and academics. Whether that decision comes after my first visit or the last, I just won't know until then."
