Big offensive lineman Shawn Marcell (6-3,280-pounds) is not a household name in Louisiana high school football. It's not because Marcell lacks talent, but that Berwick high has not been exactly a stomping ground for college football recruiters. Marcell has gotten more attention from college football recruiters late this summer, including Louisiana's Ragin'Cajuns. Marcell spoke to the RedZone about his list of suitors and his summer.
"I have had contact with and received letters from LSU, UL, Tulane, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Texas A & M and Florida," said Marcell. "I haven't received any offers yet, but I'm looking forward to this season."
Shawn did have a busy summer, attending several football camps and the Texas Rivals Top 100 Camp.
"I attended camps at LSU and Tulane this summer," said Shawn. "The Texas Rivals Top 100 Camp was an awesome experience, I really enjoyed it. I worked at the offensive tackle position, because that is what I play in high school and I want to get better at that position."
College coaches see Marcell's future at an interior line position and not on the edge.
"Yes sir, the coaches at the summer camps told me that my future is at the interior and not playing tackle, but I want to get better at the position I play so I can help my team. I play tackle and defensive tackle for my team."
What have the coaches from UL told Marcell about their interest in him?
"I didn't attend their football camp at UL, but coach Fouquier sent me a letter that they were interested in me and they would be in contact with me during the season. I know a little about the program and the academics at UL."
Academics are important to Marcell, as he plans to major in Pre-Med.
"I'm definitely interested in colleges that have a medical school, which is why I attended the Tulane football camp. Academics are important to me and will be in a major factor in choosing the college program that I will sign with."
Interest Picks Up for Marcell
