Ricky Johnson Talks about Season

Carencro senior athlete Ricky Johnson was recently awarded the ESPN 1420/Cajun RedZone high school athlete of the week award. The Arkansas commitment spoke to the Cajun RedZone about his senior season and his plans for this weekend.

This season has been tough for Ricky Johnson and his teammates at Carencro High. The 5-11, 185-pound athlete rushed for 1,296 yards, passed for 400 yards and totaled over 300 yards during his junior season. But Carencro graduated several outstanding athletes and lost super prospect Janzen Jackson to 5A power Barbe High in Lake Charles. So far this season, Carencro has struggled to win a few games and Johnson has found the going tough as well.

"It's been really tough this season, we've have a very young team on both sides of the ball, Johnson stated." "The defenses double me when I split out and it's frustrating when you can't get some things done."

Johnson had offers from Arkansas, Tulsa, Georgia Tech, Texas A & M, Louisiana and Ole Miss. So why did he commit so early in the process to Arkansas?

"When you visit programs, most of them have very good facilities and it really comes down to how comfortable you feel when you visit, said Ricky." "I really liked the program and I looked at the depth chart for next year."

While Johnson is committed, he still has the opportunity to take unofficial and official visits. Ricky recently attended the UL game against Kent State and plans on attending this weekends Sun Belt clash against rival Arkansas State.

"I attended the Kent State game and it was fun, Johnson said." "I really like the way the coaches are using Jason Chery in the offense; I've been keeping up with him through the season."

The Cajun offense has produced some serious numbers this season, what has the Cajun staff told Johnson about his opportunities at UL next season?

"They told me that I have an opportunity to play a similar role as Jason Chery as a freshman, Ricky stated." "They're the local school and my family is in the area, so I just wanted to take a visit."

Ricky Johnson has scored a 17 on the ACT and currently sports a 3.5 GPA in his core. Johnson is interested in Engineering as a major.
