With the recent commitment of Woodlawn High CB Winston Burnette, the Cajun football staff has one more scholarship left to fill at that position. Could the 5-11,180-pound Shakiel Smith be the answer for the other scholarship available?
"I've set my official visit to ULL on January 17th, Smith said." "I went up there for the prospect camp, but I really didn't have time to look around much at the campus and facilities."
Smith had several other stops at summer camp as well this summer.
"I also attended camps at USM and Alabama, said Shakiel." "I did pretty well at the summer camps, running a 4.4 in the forty."
Smith was offered by the Cajuns earlier in the fall and has several other offers on the table right now.
"I have offers from Northern Illinois, ULM and UCONN right now, Smith said." "I haven't heard from some of the other programs like Southern Miss or Tulane that offered early on."
Shakiel just recently returned from a visit from Kansas State with teammate Cornelius Lucas. How did his visit go in Manhattan?
"The visit went well at K-State, said Smith" "They didn't offer, but told me they will be in contact."
Smith has scored a 17 on the ACT and currently maintains a 2.9 GPA in his core. What major is Smith interested in?
"I'm interested in engineering, said Smith." "I know UL has a good engineering program."
