Itawamba Community College has a strong football tradition, qualifying for the playoffs the last four years. Of course you cannot have a successful football program without quality athletes and John Weber is an athlete that has gotten lost in the shuffle. Weber played opposite of All-American Pernell McPhee during the 2008 season at the defensive end position. Weber spoke to us Wednesday night about his scheduled visit to Louisiana this weekend.
"I'm headed to UL-Lafayette this weekend, Weber said." "Coach Fouquier has been recruiting from down there and decided to come down on an official visit this Friday."
John Weber is a former all-state DE from Helen Cox High School, in Harvey Louisiana.
After a strong performance in the Louisiana-Texas Bowl All-Star, Weber enrolled at Itawamba Community College.
"The coaches played me at the outside linebacker position during the all-star game, John said." "I didn't have a problem playing at linebacker, but my natural position is defensive end."
When John enrolled at Itawamba, he was 6-3, 230-pounds, but he now has the size to play at the Division I level.
"Yea, I'm 6-3, 277-pounds right now, John stated." "I been able to add some weight and keep my speed, a 4.85 forty right now."
John Weber finished the season with 8.5 sacks, but all of them came at the defensive end position.
"I moved around on the line, Weber said." "I rotated on the line inside and out on the edge. That is what Coach Fouquier liked about my film; I can help them in the rotation inside and outside at the defensive end position."
What does John know about the Ragin'Cajun football program, and what other schools is he in contact with?
"I know that they had a good season in the Sun Belt this year, said Weber." "They have good facilities and the academics are very good as well. I have had calls from ULL, North Texas, Arkansas State and several others right now."
Recruiting Weber is part of the staffs goal of improving line play and creating depth in the program.
