All-State Linebacker Set for Weekend Visit

The Ragin'Cajuns are hosting a small group of athletes scheduled for the final weekend of recruiting before National Signing Day. One of the athletes scheduled to be part of this weekends group, is an all-state linebacker from New Orleans.

The 6-2, 220-pound Jewell Ratliff is an athlete from McDonogh #35 and has been one the best kept secrets in the New Orleans area. Ratliff missed four games during his junior year due to injury, so not many college football recruiters had him listed as a solid prospect. All Jewell Ratliff did in 2008 was have an outstanding senior season, was named all-district, all-state and participated in the New Orleans Pontchartrain All-Star game. Louisiana high school football guru Lee Breechen offers video services for college football programs has filmed Ratliff, and stated that he could be as good as BCS prospect Lamin Barrow.

"I worked really hard to have a good senior year, said Ratliff." "I wanted to go out and prove I could play with the best in the area. We play in a tough district and played good teams in the state playoffs."

Jewell Ratliff has received some interest from college recruiters, but the uncertainty of his academics has limited his options.

"I have had interest from ULL, North Texas and other state schools, Jewell said." "I'm a lot closer to becoming qualified now, than I was back during the fall."

With his visit scheduled for the last weekend of the month, how does Ratliff feel about his chances of an offer at UL?

"I really want to play at UL, said Ratliff." "I will have all my transcripts and test scores together with me when I come in this weekend. If they offer me, I will commit this weekend."

With a few scholarships left to offer, the UL football staff is hoping the question of Ratliff's eligibility will be much clearer after this weekend. Ratliff may still have the opportunity to grey-shirt if he does not receive clearance from the Clearing House.
