Ratliff Gives Cajuns Verbal

McDonogh #35 LB Jewell Ratliff was one of three high school football prospects to give the Ragin'Cajuns a verbal commitment this weekend.

"Javone Lawson and I talked about it a lot last night and we both decided to commit to UL, said Ratliff." "The school is not the far from home, the facilities are nice and I can get a good education."

With former teammate Derrick Dean already in the program, Ratliff's decision was a little easier to make.

"Having Derrick in the program already, made me feel more comfortable in making that decision, Jewell said." "Also, I just didn't see myself going all the way up to North Texas and play for a program that won only one game. I'm taking the gray-shirt opportunity at UL and I still have one more shot at the ACT test in April."

The 6-2, 220-pound Ratliff earned second team all-state honors in Class 4A as a junior with 91 tackles and five sacks. He was an honorable mention all-state selection as a senior. But because of his academics, garnered little interest from Division I programs.

After UL and North Texas, I received a few calls, Ratliff said." "But I have a chance to play Division one football and this is the school that stayed with me through the process of recruiting."
