Donna Bourgeois opened her season with a pair of complete games against SEC opponent Ole Miss, finishing with a 0.82 ERA in 17.0 innings of work. She set a personal best in her season debut with 13 strikeouts on Friday afternoon and then topped that with a career-high 14 strikeouts on Sunday. Bourgeois ended the weekend with 27 strikeouts compared to just four walks. She scattered eight hits in two games—all singles—and tossed a complete game, one-hit shutout in the Cajuns' season opener.
In game one, the righty faced the minimum, giving up a leadoff single and then retiring the next 20 batters in order, adding to the total when she retired the first eight batters of the second game she pitched. Bourgeois held the Rebels scoreless for the first 16.0 innings she threw and tossed a career-best 10.0 innings on Sunday afternoon.
Bourgeois and the Cajuns will return to action on Friday night as they host the 23rd Annual Louisiana Classics Softball Tournament at Lamson Park. The Cajuns will take on Lipscomb at 5:30 p.m.
