Brian Jenkins Leaves UL for Rutgers

UL running backs coach Brian Jenkins told the Ragin' Cajun football team that Wednesday would be his last day wearing vermilion and white. Jenkins was scheduled to depart Wednesday night for his new destination Rutgers University.

Coach Jenkins departed Wednesday night after accepting the wide receivers coaching position at Rutgers.

Jenkins attended his final practice as a UL coach Wednesday afternon, the first day of spring practice. Coach Jenkins commented on his quick decision to accept the coaching position at Rutgers.

"It was something that came by surprise," Jenkins said. "When (Rutgers) coach (Greg) Schiano called me, he was direct, straight-forward. I know he's a no-nonsense guy.

"We talked a little bit, everything was right. I discussed it with my wife, several people, and I just felt that this was good for me."

Jenkins joined the UL staff when Rickey Bustle arrived and has coached the running backs since 2002. Under his watch, Jenkins cultivated All-Sun Belt tailback Tyrell Fenroy into a four-time 1,000-yard rusher.

Coach Bustle spoke about Jenkins departure after practice Wednesday.

"Coach Jekins has meant a lot to this program,"Bustle stated. "He's been here from the beginning and has been recognized as a good football coach."

"This business is just that,It's a great financial opportunity and I wish him and his family the best."

Opinion

Coach Jenkins is known in the coaching ranks as a good recruiter and a hard worker on the field and in the film room. His recruiting skills will be greatly missed this season.
