"Northern Illinois has offered me, but I'm open to other programs," he said. "Other schools like Arkansas, Southern Mississippi, Texas A&M and Alabama have all contacted me about attending their summer camps."
The 5-11, 189-pound speedster finished his junior year with over 1,300 yards and 20 touchdowns, after rushing for 2,213 yards and 24 touchdowns on 229 carries as a sophomore. What are Gillum's summer plans?
"I'm going to the LSU camp," said James. "I'm also looking at the Alabama and Texas A&M camps too this summer. I'm keeping my options open for other camps as well."
What about some of the other state schools, does he have any on his list?
"I've received letters from ULL, Tulane and Louisiana Tech," Gillum stated. "I haven't spoken to anyone about attending their football camps, but I'm trying to fit in as many as possible this summer."
Gillum's teammate Jacob Maxwell signed with the Cajuns as part of the 2009 signing class earlier this year. James mentioned that Jacob Maxwell shared some thoughts with him on the Cajun program.
"We talked about some of the things he liked about their program," said James. "He enjoyed his visit there and some of the things they are doing with the facilities. I'm open to what they have to offer as a program, but haven't spoken to them recently."
Gillum has increased his strength, adding 14 lbs. since January.
"I've gained 14 lbs. to my frame, going from 175 lbs. to 189 lbs.," stated Gillum. "I'm working on muscle, but I don't want to lose my speed. I ran a 4.47 in the spring and I want to continue to work on my speed this summer.
James Gillum looks to turn more then a few heads this summer.
