The Louisiana Cajun Football program will hold its annual prospect football camp on June7th. Over 250 athletes attended the one day camp in 2008 and the Cajun coaching staff is expecting similar number to participate this year. Included in that number every year are a few out of state prospects making to drive down to Lafayette. One such athlete, DB David Casey out of Pace High in Florida is scheduled to attend the Cajun camp Sunday.
David Casey is a 5-10, 165-pound CB with 4.45 speed in the forty and a member of the 2008 All Area First Team Defense, Defensive Back by Pensacola Sports Broadcasting. Casey finished the 2008 season with 13 tackles, 4 INT's, 2 returned for TD's, 1forced fumble and 2 fumble recoveries. Why did David decide to come out to Louisiana for a football camp, with the number of college programs in close proximity to Pace Florida?
"I received a questioner in the mail and visited the web site for their football program," Casey said. "I liked the indoor practice facility and the picture of the turf in the football stadium looked really good. It's an opportunity to go out of state and look at a program up close that I might have an interest in playing college football."
David Casey is not just a football athlete, but play's center field for the Pace High baseball team as well.
"We finished the season, losing in the regional playoffs," he said. "I enjoy playing both sports, but I'm going to concentrate on football this summer attending a few camps and mandatory workouts."
Casey is not the first football athlete that has drawn some attention for the Cajun football program. The Cajun staff recruited OL Jimmie Colley and TE Ryan Hanks in 2008, both athletes visited campus last fall.
"I didn't 'know they recruited Jimmie Colley and Ryan Hanks, David stated. "Ryan signed with Southern Mississippi and Jimmie signed with Florida Atlantic I think. It's interesting that both of them were recruited by UL last season."
After attending the Cajun prospect camp, David Casey is headed north to the Notre Dame football camp.
"My uncle is paying for the trip up to Indiana," he said. "A friend and I are going to attend the camp together and I'm really looking forward to the trip up to Notre Dame later this summer."
David is a good student and has already decided upon a major.
"I'm interested in Sports Medicine as a major, David stated." "My education is important to me, not just playing sports in college."
David Casey is another athlete form Pace High that will get his share of interest this fall.
