Former Saint Martinville Tiger Xavier Youman officially transferred to Louisiana from Northwestern State University today. The 6-4, 245-pound Youman attended practice today after meeting with admissions and registering for the fall semester.
Xavier Youman walked-on to the Northwestern State program in 2008 with the promise of a scholarship from the previous staff and Scott Stoker. When Coach Bradley Peveto was hired to replace the terminated Scott Stoker, Youman was told that he may not have a scholarship this year. When Youman reported for fall practice, he was told that there would be no scholarship from the 2009 season and so Xavier decided playing close to home was his best option.
Youman was First Team All-District his senior year at St. Martinville high. Xavier also lettered two years in basketball and three years in track and graduated with a 3.0 GPA. Xavier is the younger brother of Oklahoma State TE Wilson Youman.
Xavier Youman will sit out the 2009 season and have three years of eligibility left.
