Jonesville Block High has several top athletes that college recruiters are shown interest in; senior athlete Curdarius Johnson has garnered the most attention thus far in 2009. The 6'1, 180- pound athlete has the 4.4 speed that college coaches covet at the skilled positions and defensive backfield. Johnson spoke with the Cajun RedZone about his first unofficial visit to UL during the Southern game Wednesday night.
On the UL and Southern game…
Johnson- "Wow that was a great game to attend, the crowd was wild and the atmosphere was just great for a college football game. That was the first football game at UL that I have actually attended."
Visiting the locker room after the game….
Johnson- "We had the chance to be in the locker room after the game and talk to some of the players. You could feel the excitement in the room and Coach Bustle told me that he would like to see me in the Cajun program."
On recruiting coach and college position….
Johnson- "Coach Hudson is my recruiter from UL and he has told me they like me as an athlete, possibly contributing at several positions. He spoke to me about the running back position and playing on the offensive side of the ball. Safety is also an option, but they like my speed."
Summer football camp and college interested….
Johnson- "I attended one of LSU's camps this summer and ran a 4.4 in the forty. I had to work this summer, so I didn't have the time to attend any other camps. Some of the other colleges interested in me are USF, Kansas State, Louisiana Tech, Grambling, Southern and several other small schools."
On the university and Lafayette…
Johnson- "I've been on campus several times, I have friends that attended UL and it was great to hang around with them. I like Lafayette and my friends say they enjoy coming to school here at UL."
ACT score and GPA….
Johnson- "I scored an 18 on my first ACT, but I've scheduled my second test in October. My GPA is a 2.8 right now and I'm doing well in my core courses this year."
