Alexandria Senior High wide receiver Darryl Surgent is still soaking in the Trojans 27-13 playoff lose to Cecilia High last Friday night. But Surgent has nothing to hang his head about, as the Trojans finished the 2009 season 9-2. The 6-1, 185-pound Surgent finished the 2009 season strong with 860 yards, on 46 receptions, averaging 18.7 per catch and 11 TDs.
"It was tough to end the season with a loss," said Darryl. "We knew it was going to be a tough draw against Cecilia High, but I thought we could have played better then we did against them."
While Surgent didn't score against Cecilia, he had 3 receptions for 78 yards and a long of 46 yards in the game. The senior speedster has the type of big play ability the Cajun coaching staff is looking for in this years signing class.
"Coach Hudson told me they like my speed and quickness," Surgent stated. "I ran a 4.5 forty on grass at LSU and ran a 4.4 forty on the track surface while at their summer camp."
While Darryl Surgent has received an offer from UL, the Cajuns have invited him in for a visit for the final home game against Troy.
"I have offers from ULM, Northwestern State and Southeastern Louisiana," said Darryl. "ULL and LSU are both talking to me and I've scheduled a visit to watch the Cajuns against Troy later this month."
Darryl knows what ULM, LSU and UL have to offer as football programs, but the academics will be important as well.
"I'm interested in Engineering as a major, so academics are important to me as well," Surgent stated. "I scored a 19 on the ACT; but I don't know my current GPA in my core courses. When I take my official visits, we are going to take a harder look at the engineering departments at those schools."
Darryl Surgent is a difference maker on the field, something the Cajun program is currently lacking in the skilled positions.
