What's next for Bates?

The Cajun football staff entertained several members of their 2010 signing class during Saturday's scrimmage at Cajun Field. But one prominent visitor was not a member of the 2010 class and remains unsigned.

Cajun fans that attended the team's first scrimmage of the spring football period Saturday got a glimpse of the state's top remaining unsigned member of the 2010 class, Houston Bates from St. Paul's HS. Bates is the #68 Scout.com ranked DE school prospect in 2010 class and remains unsigned after committing to LSU early last fall. Bates has not commented publicly after not signing with LSU on Feb 3rd, National Signing Day, but did speak to the Cajun Redzone about his visit and summer plans.

Visit this weekend

Bates: "I decided to come in this week, meet with the coaches and hang out during the scrimmage today. I had planned to come in before, but it just didn't work out at the time. But I plan on getting a good look around the facility today and then meet with some friends later this afternoon."

Thoughts on UL

Bates : "I definitely like what I've seen, the environment and people around the program. I have friends already enrolled at UL, so we've talked a lot about the school and their experiences here in Lafayette; that is one of the things that attracted to the program."

Any other options?

Bates : "I had a visit set up to SMU, after deciding to come in and visit UL. But I decided not to visit SMU although it's a great school; I just felt this is where I want to play in the end. If everything works out for me, this is where I'm going to be in August."

What's next?

Bates : "They (UL) are trying to find something for me; there is no scholarship available right now. Once I graduate this spring, then I can either come in this summer, depending on what can be worked out or wait until August. In either case, I like it here at UL and this is where I want to attend school."
