Louisville and Butler have split their previous eight meetings at 4-4. Butler won the
first four while Louisville won the last four straight.
The two teams had one common opponent this season: Saint Louis. Butler beat the Billikens
68-46 on Dec. 21 while the Cardinals split their
two games, winning 73-54 on Jan. 11 in Louisville
and falling 58-59 on Feb. 12 in St. Louis.
The teams have not played since 1973 when the Cardinals
won 91-81 in Hinkle Fieldhouse (Dec. 8, 1973). The
Cardinals had torrid shooting, hitting 36-of-66 from the field for
.545 shooting percentage. Junior Bridgeman had 22 points and
11 rebounds to lead the Cardinals. Allen Murphy had 21 points
while Wesley Cox added 19.
Butler won the first game of the series 62-24 in 1921, U of
L's ninth season of intercollegiate competition. For perspective
that year, Woodrow Wilson was in his final month in the White
House; the Yankees bought the 20 acres in the Bronx on that to build Yankee Stadium; and
Behave Yourself won the Kentucky Derby.
Louisville has a collective 21-8 record against current members of the Horizon League.
The last time the Cardinals faced a Horizon League team was in defeating Wisconsin-
Milwaukee 90-75 in the first round of the 2001 Jim Thorpe Classic (12-7-01).
