Q & A: Rod Day

Senior linebacker Rod Day spoke with ITV recently to discuss his and the linebacker unit's progress.

As a full-time starter his junior year, Rod Day recorded 101 total tackles and was named 2nd team All-Conference USA, despite missing the final three games of the season with a knee injury.

As a senior, Day will be looked upon for leadership as the linebacker coach Kevin Wolthausen works to fill two starting linebacker positions.

I caught up with Day following a recent practice and asked him how things are progressing.

ITV: What are your impressions of practices so far?

Day: Everybody's flying around and we're doing good. We still need to learn the feel of Coach P's offense and defense.

ITV: How does it feel to have the pads back on and be out there making contact?

Day: It feels real good to have the pads back on. We're able to start proving ourselves now.

ITV: Your are the only returning starter at linebacker.

Day: I'm ready to go too. Leadership doesn't just mean vocal, so I have to step up and make plays everyday.

ITV: Talk about how you guys are coming together as a linebacker unit.

Day: Everybody's excited and ready to play. We should be ready to go by the end of spring. Everybody knows what they are doing mentally, so eventually it's all going to come together.

ITV: Tell me what you think about the new defensive coaches.

Day: I feel very positive about these guys. When you make a mistake, they are right there with you coaching and making you better.

ITV: Completely recovered from the knee injury?

Day: Sure am. I spent a lot of time in the weight room and that helped me to get better quickly. I'm 100% right now.
