Top Florida QB talks with ITV

I recently had the pleasure of talking with Drew Weatherford of Land O' Lakes High School. Weatherford is one the top upcoming seniors in Florida and possibly the best quarterback prospect in the Sunshine State.

Quarterback Drew Weatherford (6'3, 205) had a very impressive junior season, throwing for 2,645 yards, 39 touchdowns with only six interceptions and completing 65 percent of his passes for Land O' Lakes (FL) High School. He helped guide his team to an undefeated season, before falling to Palm Bay in the third round of the 4A State Championship.

Following the season Weatherford racked up a number of honors including All-District, All-Sun Coast, All-County First Team and Offensive MVP and 2nd team 4A All-State.

In addition to Louisville, Miami, Florida, Texas, Florida State, Georgia, Penn State, South Florida, Oregon, Georgia Tech, Auburn, LSU and Minnesota have contacted Weatherford. First-year Conference USA member South Florida, along with Minnesota and Auburn have extended offers. Louisville has given a verbal offer to Weatherford.

When I talked to Drew, I asked him about his interest in Louisville and explained that he has developed a great relationship with Louisville head coach Bobby Petrino.

"I first met him when I went to Auburn for a camp last year," explained Weatherford. "We got along really well right from the beginning. He's a great coach and he taught me a lot of things."

He continued to tell me that he has stayed in contact with Coach Petrino. "I have called him a couple times since he went to Louisville."

The existing relationship could pay dividends when Weatherford narrows his options and makes a decision in the coming months.

"I want to find a place that I am comfortable with and that has good academic programs," said Weatherford, who is currently carrying a 3.6 GPA. "To be honest, I want to find a place where I can have a good relationship with the coaches. Location may be a small part of it too."

With plans all ready made to camp at Florida State and Georgia, Weatherford is hoping for to add two more camps to his itinerary. Louisville and Auburn are the additional stops he hopes to schedule.

Drew & I also discussed his teams loss in the playoffs to Palm Bay, which is where signees Eric Miller and Thomas Miller played as seniors. When I informed him that the Miller twins signed with Louisville, he had nothing but praise for the brothers.

"They caused me a few problems in that game," said Weatherford of the season ending 20-14 loss to the eventual 4A State Champions. "They are real good. They are definately the best corners we played against last year. They are the real deal for sure!"

Thomas Miller, who recorded an interception in the win, also had great things to say about Weatherford. "We knew the quarterback was the best in the whole state and we respect that," Thomas Miller told Florida Today after the game.
