Ledo re-opens recruitment

Ricardo Ledo, a five-star shooting guard who committed to Providence last month, is back on the board after re-opening his recruitment Monday. Louisville and John Calipari's rival Kentucky Wildcats are expected to battle for the Fitchburg (MA) Notre Dame standout.

Ricardo Ledo's commitment to Providence was short-lived.

A five-star 2012 shooting guard, Ledo re-opened his recruitment Monday after verbally committing to the Friars last month.

"I'm no longer a providence friar," Ledo said on Twitter. "I decided to open my recruitment back up and view my other options."

Before committing to Providence, Louisville was viewed as the strong front-runner in his recruitment. Now that the talented guard is back on the board, the Cardinals once again are expected to be one of the top contenders for his services.

But Louisville likely will have stiff competition for Scout.com's No. 7 2012 prospect. Chief among that group - John Calipari and Kentucky. The Wildcats, according to sources, intend to make a strong run for Ledo's services.

According to Scout.com's Evan Daniels, Connecticut and Texas also likely will be involved.

Ledo recently transferred to Fitchburg (MA) Notre Dame Prep, his fourth different school in the past three years. Louisville, it should be noted, has had recent success landing Notre Dame Prep stars, including Derrick Caracter, Terrence Jennings and Angel Nunez, who currently plays for the prep basketball power.
