6'3, 295 Montavious Stanley signed with Louisville two years ago out of Albany, GA as a highly touted, athletic defensive lineman. After sitting out the 2001 season, Stanley emerged last season as a promising defensive tackle for the Cardinal defense, gaining valuable playing experience in the process.
This spring, Stanley has solidly positioned himself on the first string defense and his play has been outstanding at times. In Saturday's scrimmage action, Montavious showed the ability to get behind the line and make plays and registered one sack on the day. He also had 2 TFL and made an impressive tackle of running back Eric Shelton in which he chased Shelton from behind to make the play.
Following the scrimmage on Saturday, Stanley talked with ITV about his and defensive lines progress.
ITV: You seemed to play well today, how do you think the scrimmage went?
Stanley: Oh it went pretty good. We're picking up the defense pretty fast and everybody's playing fast and together on defense and that's why certain people standout when everybody does their job.
ITV: How do you think the defensive line is progressing?
Stanley: It's coming along pretty good. We're picking up the plays and playing fast and everything's going pretty good.
ITV: You saw some time at end today. What situations dictate moving you from the inside to the outside?
Stanley: I'm on the inside and the outside. It just depends on the situation. I'll be out on the end mostly in passing situations.
ITV: What's the one area you're concentrating to improve?
Stanley: Beating one on one blocking.
