Louisville's early offer, considering his injury, earned major points with Winston.
"I liked Louisville and they caught my eye even before the offer because of their coaching staff," Winston said. "Charlie Strong is a defensive-minded coach, I play on the defensive side of the ball, and he knows defense."
Winston spoke with Ron Dugans last week about Louisville's offer and the UofL assistant told Winston the Cardinals want him to visit this spring.
"I talked to Coach Dugans about the offer," Winston said. "I sent my highlight film up there and they loved my highlight film. Coach Dugans talked about coming up for a visit this spring, and I'm definitely going up there to visit."
Louisville is the second school to offer Winston this spring. The athletic defensive end also received an offer recently from Southern Mississippi, a team Louisville defeated in the Beef O'Brady's bowl. With two offers on the table, Winston looks forward to getting back on the field next fall.
"It made me love the game of football even more," Winston said of his injury. "I'll be back full-throttle my senior season. I love to play football and I missed out on that opportunity this year."
Winston also knows what is important to him in choosing a college.
"Graduation-rate is the first thing in choosing a school," said Winston. "If football doesn't work out I want to have something to fall back on. Plus, I want to know who they are recruiting at my position. Am I going to get playing time? Location is important because I want my mom and dad to come visit me and be there every step in everything I do."
