Pitino impresses Tello on visit
Coach Pitino traveled to Centerreach, NY last Friday to visit with top UofL target Tello Palacios at Our Savior New American school. Wednesday afternoon, ITV spoke with Our Savior Head Coach Ron Stelzer about Coach Pitino's visit.
"It was very informative, relaxed and enjoyable," Stelzer said of Pitino's visit. "We've seen a number of coaches come in and Coach Pitino sells himself quite well."
Pitino followed Palacios throughout the season and saw him in action on several occasions. According to Stelzer, last week's visit was more a "sit down" type meeting this time to explain how and why the University of Louisville would be the best fit for Tello.
"Coach Pitino gave Tello (pronounced Tay joe) an idea what he would do for him at the college level and how he could help him for the long term," Stelzer said.
Stelzer said that Pitino explained what his program could do to prepare him for the next level and talked about developing Tello's face up game away from the basket.
So where does Louisville stand with the talented junior forward from Colombia?
"He's very interested," Stelzer told ITV.
According to Stelzer, Valporaiso, Illinois and Villanova also stopped by to visit Palacios during the first week of the spring evaluation period and Tennessee, Ohio State, Florida, Florida State and N.C. State would be in next week.
Stelzer said he and Palacios would sit down after all the visits and begin to narrow the list.
Stelzer indicated that Tello would have a limited AAU schedule this spring due to tenonitis in his knee but would attend either the Nike or Adidas camps in July as well as participating in the NBA's developmental camp later this summer.
