Pitino to visit Randolph Morris
Coach Pitino spent the weekend in Las Vegas where he evaluated talented 6'10 forward Mohamed Abukar.
And as the second spring evaluation period gets underway this week, Pitino will hit the recruiting trail again with a scheduled visit to Fairburn, GA today where he'll meet with talented 6'11 center Randolph Morris from Landmark Christian School.
ITV spoke with LMC Head Coach Brian Bartley last Thursday afternoon and confirmed Pitino's visit.
Earlier this year, Pitino traveled to Atlanta to see Morris square off against super junior Dwight Howard and came away impressed with Bartley's star center.
"Louisville has heavy interest in Randolph," Bartley told ITV. "Coach Pitino said they'd love to have Randolph [at UofL]," though no scholarship has been offered at this point according to Bartley.
While some have all but conceded Morris to Paul Hewitt and Georgia Tech, Bartley said that's just not the case.
"That's recruiting by assumption," Bartley said, noting that some have assumed Georgia Tech was a lock because of Morris' close proximity to the Yellow Jacket campus. "He's still open."
Bartley indicated that Morris is looking for a school where he "feels comfortable," and "where academics come first."
"He's looking for a team that plays inside-out," Bartley said, noting how well Marvin Stone played in Louisville's system last season.
Bartley likened Morris to the San Antonio Spurs' Tim Duncan in both style of play and on court personality.
"He's a big strong kid around the basket and runs the court very well," Bartley said.
Bartley indicated Morris is focusing on improving his game in two important areas this spring.
"Rebounding and staying around the basket," Bartley said of the two areas Morris would look to improve during the offseason.
Morris will attend the Adidas ABCD camp in July.
