Vance Bedford is trying to make recruiting in-roads in Texas, and one prospect the Louisville defensive coordinator recently offered is Ben Weaver, a 6-foot-1, 225-pound linebacker from Klein, TX.

Weaver has interest in Louisville and plans to visit Charlie Strong's Cardinals this summer.

"I'm definitely interested, I just haven't had a chance to go visit," Weaver said. "I definitely will be visiting soon. I've talked to Coach Bedford and Coach Strong multiple times and they seem very interested in me coming in and playing as soon as I can. They said I'm a great player, good at my reads and making plays."

Weaver said he's impressed with Strong, who guided Louisville to their first winning season and bowl win last year since 2006.

"I think he's a really good guy," said Weaver. "He wrote me a letter with his phone number and told me to call anytime I want to. We talked last week, and I'm going to keep in touch with him."

An all-district selection as a junior after leading the team in tackles with Utah signee Eric Rowe, Weaver has received offers from Louisville, Boise State, Utah, Air Force, Houston and Navy this spring.

"After spring I'm going to evaluate the schools I have [offers] and start taking my visits and narrow it down," Weaver said. "I probably try and commit sometime this summer."

"I'm going to try to visit as many as I can….Louisville, Utah, Boise State. I want to visit as many schools I can and try to get a feel for what I like. I'm still trying to evaluate. I can't name favorites until I check out the school."

When Weaver does get serious about choosing a school, he'll be looking for an opportunity to make an impact early in his college career.

"I'm looking for a school that I can play right away and get a lot of playing time," said Weaver. "Louisville, Boise State and Air Force told me I could come in as a freshman and challenge for a starting spot."
