Winston visiting Louisville

Two programs have emerged as favorites for Prichard (AL) Vigor defensive line standout Jamichael Winston, and the 6-6, 230-pound lineman will visit one of his leaders next week.

Louisville and Mississippi State have emerged as the front-runners for Jamichael Winston, and the 6-6, 230-pound defensive end from Prichard (AL) Vigor plans to visit Charlie Strong's program next week.

"Louisville is up there [on my list]," Winston told "Louisville and Mississippi State are my top two schools at the moment. I've got a good feel for both coaching staffs and I see that they would treat me right if I go there. They've been recruiting me hard from the beginning and I like their defensive schemes."

Winston will visit Louisville on June 6 with his parents, and the talented lineman said his mother likes what she's been hearing from Louisville assistant Ron Dugans, Winston's primary recruiter for the Cards.

"I've been talking to Louisville about how I can help build their program back to standard," Winston said. "I've been talking a lot to Coach Dugans and Coach Strong. My mom loves the way Coach Dugans always asks about my family when I call him. She likes that a lot. I'm excited about my visit coming up."

Winston, who missed his junior season with injury, picked up recent offers from Louisiana-Lafayette and Troy. He also holds offers from Kentucky, Mississippi State, South Florida and Syracuse. Winston said he might visit Mississippi State but doesn't have a trip lined up at the moment.

"I'm going to make my decision before the season gets started," Winston said. "I'm looking for a good [academic] program whatever I major in. A good family oriented program and someone who will care about me for the next four years."
