Before visiting Louisville, Appleby held nine offers from Mid-American Conference and Sun Belt programs. Thursday, the 6'5, 225-pound Appleby received his first BCS offer from the Cardinals.
"I really, really love Louisville," Appleby told InsideTheVille.com. "I've been down there three or four times. Every time I go down there I like it more and more and I like the coaching staff and everything they have to offer. I got to talk to the academic people and Louisville is definitely a place that is very high on my list right now. It's definitely an offer I will consider."
During his visit Thursday, Appleby spent quality time with quarterback coach Shawn Watson and spoke with Strong about Louisville's interest in his recruitment.
"I got a chance to work out with Coach Watson and he put me through some drills and I got a chance to get on the board and do some film-work," Appleby said. "He explained what the offense is all about and how I would fit in. I got to sit down with Coach Strong, who explained the situation that he was offering me a scholarship. It was a great day."
Watson, who replaced Mike Groh during the off-season, gave Appleby positive feedback after the workout.
"Feedback from Coach Watson was very positive," said Appleby. "We got out there for an hour or so and then got to talk some ball from the mental aspect. We have a very strong relationship and he's one of my favorite coaches that I've met throughout the recruiting process."
"Whoever they recruit in this class will be the first quarterback they've recruited since Coach Watson has been there and will really be his guy, that's good and that's big. I can't really go into detail, but it's a very good situation at Louisville right now."
Though Louisville is his only BCS offer, Appleby didn't want to proclaim Charlie Strong's program as his favorite. He'll attend a bunch of Big 10 camps this month, and he's hoping more offers come his way.
"The only BCS offer I have right now is Louisville," Appleby said. "I have nine [offers] throughout the MAC and Sunbelt. I'm not calling anybody my leader. I have ten offers to play football so those are my favorites. It's way too early to name leaders because we're going to Iowa on Saturday, Purdue on Monday, Penn State on the 22nd, Ohio State on the 25th, we're going to Michigan and we have a chance to go to Gainesville. After we're done with all those we'll figure out the best fit for me and I'm going to commit by August."
