Junior Prospect: Brandon Gathof

Brandon Gathof is a junior prospect at Oldham County High School and is projected as a Division I-A linebacker. I visited with his head coach Mike Jackson on Monday to discuss Brandon's early recruitment.

Playing at Oldham County High School, Brandon Gathof is one of the top college prospects in the Louisville area.

I spoke with Oldham County Head Coach Mike Jackson on Monday and discussed his talented player.

"He's our main offensive threat," Jackson explained about Gathof, who lined up at both free safety and wide receiver last season. "He'll project as a linebacker for Division I ball. He's a big hitter and is more of a natural defensive player."

Gathof (6'3, 200) will be moving to the more natural spot of linebacker as a senior, which will allow to utilize some of his other on the field qualities.

"He has that great hitting ability," continued Jackson. "He also shows great leadership and has a nose for the football."

Brandon has also been laser-timed with a 4.72-40 speed, which is comparible to a 4.6 hand recorded speed.

He is all ready receiving a load of interest, including regular contact or mailings from Kentucky, Louisville, Indiana, Purdue, Michigan State, Wake Forest and Vanderbilt.

Coach Jackson also informed me that Gathof has made two unofficial visits to Kentucky, once for their junior day and again for their Blue-White scrimmage. He also told me that Indiana is probably recruiting the senior to be the hardest right now.

Brandon, who currently is holding a 3.3 GPA, is a solid student and won't have any difficulty qualifying.
