Bluegrass battle for Parnell

Louisville and Kentucky are at the top of the list for talented Winsboro, South Carolina defensive back Devontre Parnell. Scout.com has the latest on Parnell's recruitment.

Louisville and Kentucky top the list for talented Winsboro, South Carolina defensive back Devontre Parnell, who plans to make a decision later this summer.

"My top five would be Louisville, Kentucky, North Carolina State, Illinois and East Carolina," Parnell told PackPride.com, the Scout.com N.C. State website. "I don't really have one leader right now. I think Louisville and Kentucky would be right there at the No. 1 spot. I'm going back and forth between them right now."

What stands out about the Cardinals and Wildcats?

"They offer me more," he said. "The Louisville coach told me I could come in and start right away and also play on special teams. They want me to come in and play. The coach was asking me what jersey number I wanted and I told him that I wear No. 1. He said if I came to Louisville I would get it.

"With Kentucky it's the same. They've been recruiting me hard. I just talked to the head coach [on Monday], and they want me to get up there and visit. When I was talking to the coach he was telling me they had five defensive backs leaving next year so they need someone to play right away and start and do special teams too. Like I said, I feel like those two schools offer me more."

Parnell plans to visit both schools soon.
