Four-star Charlotte, N.C., linebacker Nick Dawson dropped in for an unofficial visit to Louisville Tuesday.

Dawson, whose father lives in Louisville, was in town to attend his grandfather's funeral. Tuesday morning, Dawson was on campus at Louisville, where he watched Charlie Strong's team practice before speaking with the Cardinals coach.

"It was cool," Dawson told "It was very intense out there during practice. I talked to Coach Strong. It went good. It was a real good conversation. We weren't really talking about football because my granddad passed this weekend. He was talking to me about that."

Louisville is locked in a recruiting battle with Clemson for Dawson, who was recently selected to play in the prestigious U.S. Army All-American game in San Antonio, Texas next January. North Carolina, Miami, Tennessee and USC are also in the mix.

"Everything is the same," Dawson said of his recruitment. "I plan to announce my decision at the U.S. Army All-American game."

Dawson's team opens the 2011 season on August 19 against Charlotte (NC) Vance. "We've got a lot of good players on our team, we just have to come together as one and get on the same page," Dawson said.
