Parnell rehabilitating injured knee

Louisville commit Devontre Parnell, a three-star corner from Winnsboro, S.C., had knee surgery last month and will likely miss his senior year. Parnell began rehabilitating his injury knee last week and recently gave an update.

Louisville cornerback commit Devontre Parnell underwent knee surgery last month and will likely miss his senior season at Winnsboro (SC) Fairfield H.S.

A three-star cornerback, Parnell is one of Charlie Strong's top committed recruits in the Class of 2012. Though disappointed by his injury, Parnell is maintaining a positive attitude about his recovery.

"I had surgery recently, but my knee is doing good," Parnell recently told "The surgery went good. They told me I should have a fast recovery."

Parnell, 5'10, 178, began rehabilitating his injured knee August 9. He believes he'll make a fast recovery.

"I'm an athletic guy so I'm hoping to make it back this season," Parnell said. "That's how I look at it."

One of 12 players presently committed to play for Louisville next season, Parnell maintains frequent contact with assistant Brian Jean-Mary, his recruiting contact on Strong's staff. Parnell, who chose Louisville over Kentucky in July, is looking forward to making an official visit to Louisville, possibly in September.

"I talked to Louisville [last week]," Parnell said. "I talked to basically the whole coaching staff – Coach Jean-Mary, Coach [Vance] Bedford, Coach [Larry] Slade and Coach Strong. Coach Strong told me to get better because they're going to need me for next year. Coach Jean-Mary, we talk all the time, and we're real cool. We're trying to set up the date for my visit. I'm probably going to come up for a visit in September."

Parnell, who possesses sub-4.5 forty speed, finished his junior year with 58 tackles, 25 assists, four interceptions, ten pass break ups and a fumble recovery.
