ITV at the Tournament of Champions
This weekend Inside TheVille.com will travel to Tobacco Road for the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions to bring you exclusive coverage of one of the biggest and best AAU Tournaments of the spring. Nearly all the top UofL prospects will be in attendance, including J.R. Smith, Sebastian Telfair, Cedric Jackson, Rajon Rondo, Chris Lofton, Randolph Morris, David Burgess, Mohammad Tangara, Shaun Livingston, Glen Davis as well as several others. We also plan to get our first look at 6'1 8th grader Nolan Smith. Smith is the son of former Louisville great, the late Derek Smith. He's also one of the top players in the nation in his age group.
The Tournament of Champions will be played on the campuses of Duke University, the University of North Carolina and N.C. State. There are 64 17-Under teams, 32 16-Under teams and 16 15-Under teams, all comprised of the nation's top players. The 17-Under division consists of 16 pools of 4 teams each. Pool play begins Friday evening and concludes Saturday night. Each team will play every other team in its respective pool. The sixteen pool winners will advance to Sunday's 17-Under National Playoffs, while the Sixteen second place teams in each pool advance to the 17-Under Select Playoffs. The 16 and 15-Under divisions work in similar fashion.
What's all this mean? It means there will be non-stop basketball action from Friday evening until the tournament wraps up late Sunday evening. And since we've just purchased a new digital video recorder, not only will we have plenty of photos of the top UofL prospects, game and scouting reports, player and coach interviews but we'll also have exclusive video of all the action. That's right, if we figure out how to operate the recorder before the tournament begins, we'll have exclusive video footage of Telfair, Smith, Morris, Tangara, Livingston, Burgess, Rondo, Lofton and the rest! And ITV subscribers will be able to access this exclusive footage directly from the website.
We'll be leaving Louisville early Friday morning and should arrive in the Research Triangle area early Friday afternoon. After brief tours of the UNC and Duke campuses, we'll head to Cameron Indoor Stadium, home of the Duke Blue Devils, to catch J.R. Smith and Cedric Jackson in action at 6:30, Rajon Rondo and Chris Lofton at 8:00 and Shuan Livingston at 9:30.
Saturday, we'll head over to Chapel Hill and the Dean E. Smith Center where pool play resumes at 8:30 AM. We'll see David Burgess, Corey Brewer, J.R. Smith and Cedric Jackson, Sebastian Telfair, Glen Davis, Randolph Morris, Shaun Livingston and Mike Williams. Some of the top AAU teams in the nation will come through the Dean Dome Saturday including the Atlanta Celtics (Dwight Howard, Josh Smith and Morris), Southeast Pump n' Run (Mike Williams, Joey Cameron, Glenn Miles), and the Playaz (Smith, Jackson, Alex Galindo).
Sunday we'll be back in the Dean E. Smith Center for the 17-Under, 16-Under, and 15-Under playoff action which will wrap up at 5:30 PM with the awards presentation and All-Tournament selections.
And ITV will be the best and only source exclusively dedicated to following the Cardinals top recruiting prospects all weekend long. We're looking forward to all the great action and bringing you exciting coverage from the Bob Gibbons Tournament of Champions.
