Cards Extend Early Offers

Louisville has limited scholarships available for the Class of 2013. That's why Charlie Strong is being selective with the offers he's extending this winter. InsideTheVille.com takes a comprehensive look at which '13 stars Strong's staff is targeting early in the recruiting process.

Charlie Strong has turned Louisville's program around with his first three recruiting classes, including a recently signed 24-man 2012 recruiting class that ranked as one of the Big East's top classes.

With a roster full of young talent and a small senior class, the Cardinals have limited scholarships available for the Class of 2013. Strong's staff recently extended their first major batch of offers to 2013 prospects and one thing is clear - Louisville has their sights set on top-tier prospects in talent-rich Florida, Georgia and Ohio.

InsideTheVille.com breaks down Louisville's early offers:

Florida

Louisville recently offered Miramar, Fl., standouts Jermaine Grace and Alvonte Bell. Grace, a 6'2, 205 outside linebacker, is a standout on the South Florida Express, which produced several current Louisville stars, including Teddy Bridgewater. Grace also has offers from Florida, USF, Miami, Florida State and West Virginia. Bell, a 6'5, 215 pound defensive end with 4.6 40-yard speed, also has an offer from SMU. He recorded 40 tackles and 11 sacks as a junior.

Four-star Post Saint Lucie defensive tackle Jaynard Bostwick (6'4, 275) recently added an offer from Louisville. One of the elite prospects nationally, Bostwick holds early offers from Miami, Notre Dame and Florida.


Florida LB Jermaine Grace
Louisville also recently offered four-star Lake City, Fla., offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. The 6'6, 285 pound standout favors Georgia and Florida and has a host of other offers from Alabama, Arkansas, Florida State, Michigan, Notre Dame, Purdue and USF.

Stacey Thomas, a 6'3, 225 defensive end from Miami Guliver, added Louisville to an impressive list of early scholarship offers that includes Duke, Florida, FSU, Georgia Tech, LSU and West Virginia.

Mackensie Alexander, a soft commit to Tennessee, has an offer from Louisville and is one of the top cover corners in the southeast. The 5'11, 185 pound Immokalee, Florida native also has offers from Arkansas, Alabama, Florida, Ohio State and Texas A&M.

Louisville also offered Fort Walton Beach, Florida safety John Marvin, joining USF, Western Michigan and Troy. Marvin, 6'1, 190, was a standout at last month's Under Armor Combine in Orlando.

Miami Southridge safety Jamal Carter has offers from Louisville, Florida, USF, Miami, and FSU. Carter, 6'1, 185, attends the same high school that produced current Louisville defensive backs Andrew Johnson and Gerod Holliman. Carter is one of the top defensive back prospects in Florida.

Louisville also recently offered Demarcus Walker, an impressive-looking 6'4, 250 defensive end from Jacksonville Sandalwood. Walker, who recorded 14 sacks last season, has offers from Alabama, Arizona, Clemson, FIU, Miami, South Carolina, USF. Tennessee and West Virginia.

Donel Elam, a 6'2, 205 pound outside linebacker from Orange Park (FL) Fleming, received his first offer from Louisville last week.

Devin Washington, a promising defensive end prospect from Orlando Jones, holds offers from Louisville, Cincinnati, FIU, Illinois, Mississippi, UCF and South Carolina. Washington had 55 tackles and 6.5 sacks last season.

Sheddrick Williams, a 5'11, 180 pound defensive back from Madison, Florida recently received his first offers from USF and Louisville.

De'Asian Richardson, an athletic 6'4, 270 defensive tackle from Orange Park, Fla., has an offer from Louisville. An pass rushing dynamo, Richardson also holds offers from Alabama, Penn State, North Carolina, Mississippi, USF, South Carolina and Duke.

Georgia

Louisville became the first school to offer Rashad Mathis, a 6'2, 180 athlete from Valdosta, Georgia who likely projects at safety in college. Georgia, Alabama and NC State are showing early interest.

"Them offering me first puts them high on my list for sure," he said. "It really showed me what type of interest they have in me and that means a lot. They are up there for me now."

Juwaan Williams, a speedy wide receiver from Tucker, Ga., picked up an offer from Louisville last week. Williams, a Top 30 prospect in the state, attends the same high school that sent offensive lineman Aaron Epps to Louisville last season. Williams also holds offers from Georgia Tech, Clemson, ECU, Florida State, Kentucky and Wake Forest.

Louisville also recently offered Alpharetta teammates Ryan Jenkins and Peyton Barber. Jenkins, a 2013 wide receiver from Alpharetta, Georgia. Jenkins also holds an offer from Clemson. Barber, a 5'11, 210 pound running back, also has offers from UCF and Clemson.

Lithonia defensive end David Johnson recently received an offer from Louisville. The 6'2, 240 pound Johnson also holds offers from Mississippi State, South Carolina, Southern Miss and is hearing from Georgia and Georgia Tech. Johnson racked up 94 tackles, 7 sacks and forced three fumbles last season.

Ohio

Rasheen Jones, one of the most heavily recruited prospects in Ohio, recently received an offer from Louisville after Charlie Strong visited Cincinnati Northwest HS, the school that produced UofL linebacker Preston Brown. Jones, a 6'2, 220 pound linebacker, attended Kentucky's Junior Day and will attend Louisville's this weekend. Jones told InsideTheVille.com that Louisville and UC standout on his list. He also has offers from UC, UK and Bowling Green.


Ohio CB Ross Douglas
Ross Douglas, a 5'11, 185 cornerback with 4.4 forty-speed from Avon, holds offers from Louisville, UConn, Syracuse, Minnesota, Kentucky, Boston College Tennessee, Northwestern and Penn State. Douglas visited the Nittany Lions last week.

Kyle Meadows, a 6'8, 280 offensive tackle from Lakota West, holds offers from Louisville and Indiana and attended Ohio State's junior day. Meadows attends the same school as former Cardinals tight end Josh Chichester.

Louisville also has offered Isaiah Johnson, a 6'8, 285 pound offensive lineman from Walnut Hills, Ohio.

Indiana

Tim Kimbrough, one of the top linebacker prospects nationally from Indianapolis (IN) Warren Central, picked up an offer from Louisville last week and spoke with defensive coordinator Vance Bedford about the Cardinals offer. The 6'1, 215 Kimbrough has a bunch offers, notably, Kentucky, Iowa State, Missisippi State, Oregon, Florida and Arkansas.

Louisville also offered David Kenney, a 6'2, 255 defensive end from Indianapolis Pike. Kenney also holds early offers from Minnesota, Iowa and Iowa State.

Darius Latham, a 6'5, 290 pound defensive tackle from Indianapolis North Central, recently added Louisville to an impressive list that also boasts scholarship offers from Michigan, Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, Michigan State, Northwesterm Purdue and Tennessee.

Elijah Daniel, a 6'3, 240 pound defensive lineman from Avon, added an offer from the Cardinals. Daniel, a standout at the Semper Fidelis All-American combine, attends the same school as 2012 signee DeAndre Herron. Daniel holds double digit BCS scholarship offers.

Others to Watch

Louisville recently offered Jalen Ramsey, one of the most talented cornerbacks in the nation from Brentwood, TN. Mississippi State, Tennessee, Ole Miss, Auburn and Kentucky also have extended offers to Ramsey.

Uriah LeMay, who holds offers from Louisville and more than 20 BCS schools, is a top wide receiver target from Matthews, NC for Charlie Strong's Cards. LeMay, 6'2, 190, has 4.5 speed.

LeMay's teammate, four-star linebacker Peter Kalambayi, also has an offer from the Cards. The 6'2, 240 pound prospect made 80 tackles and six sacks in 2011. He has nearly two dozen BCS offers from schools like Ohio State, Oregon, Clemson and Michigan.

James Quick (WR), Jason Hatcher (DE), and Ryan White (CB) from Louisville Trinity are top local targets. After leading the Shamrocks to a national championship and state championship as juniors, all three have offers from Louisville and are top recruiting priorities for Charlie Strong and the Cardinals.
