Rozier named Derby Classic MVP

Future Louisville guard Terry Rozier helped lead the White team to a 130-127 win in the Kentucky Derby Classic, finishing with 16 points, 12 rebounds and four assists to earn White team MVP honors. Rozier also finished second in the dunk and three-point contests.

A crowd of 6,716 was on hand tonight at Freedom Hall as the White Team defeated the Black Team 130-127 in the 40th annual Kentucky Derby Festival Basketball Classic presented by

Louisville signee Terry Rozier scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds and was named White Team MVP. Amile Jefferson, still undecided, scored 26 points and grabbed five rebounds and was named Black Team MVP. Indiana recruit Jeremy Hollowell was named the "Fan Favorite" in text-message voting by spectators in attendance at the game. The Papa John's "Slice Award" for core values went to Robert Carter, a Georgia Tech recruit.

  The game featured four McDonald's All-Americans, as well as three Indiana University signees. At halftime, it was announced that the team of Jefferson (undecided on college choice) and Tyler Lewis (North Carolina State signee) won Wednesday night's 2-on-2 finals at New Albany High School during the Horseshoe Foundation Derby Festival Night of the Future Stars. 

  Said Derby Festival President and CEO Mike Berry: "We had a great turnout for tonight's game – even Mayor Greg Fischer came out to cheer on the players. With a high-scoring game that came right down to the wire, it was the perfect way to wrap up a tremendous week for basketball fans in the Commonwealth."

Rozier finished second in the dunk and three-point competitions. Marcus Smart nipped Rozier in the dunk finals, while Phil Forte out-gunned the future Cardinal 19-13 in the three-point contest.
