Keith Towbridge, a 6'5, 245 pound tight end from Toledo, OH. who Restivo has been recruiting, told InsideTheVille.com Wednesday night that he was leaning toward Louisville. Thursday, Towbridge called Charlie Strong's staff and verbally committed to the Cardinals.
"I called Coach Restivo this morning and told him I wanted to be a Louisville Cardinal and he was screaming, 'that's what I'm talking about'," Towbridge told InsideTheVille.com. "And then I got on the phone with Coach Strong's tight end coach and they told me I'm a great fit.
"I made this decision because it's a great fit for me. My mom wanted me to play for a coaching staff that she can trust to make me into a great player and a man. They won the Big East last year. It's just a great program. I'll get a chance to compete for early playing time and that's another reason why I chose Louisville."
Under Strong, Louisville has gone to consecutive bowl games, winning a share of the Big East championship last season. Towbridge said Strong has the Louisville program going in the right direction and believes bigger things are in store for the Cardinals.
"Charlie Strong is a great coach," Towbridge said. "I think he's going to take Louisville to big bowl games when I get there and a national championship."
A talented tight end prospect, Towbridge becomes the fifth member of Charlie Strong's 2013 recruiting class, joining four-star prospects Kyle Bolin and Ryan White, Florida safety Donnell Elam, and Georgia linebacker Jacarthy Mack.
"It's going to be a great class," Towbridge said. "I had a chance to talk to quarterback Kyle Bolin. I watched his film and he's got vision out of this world. That's what I like. He said he likes throwing to big targets like me and we're going to have a great connection. "
One of the top tight end prospects in the midwest, Towbridge held offers from Cincinnati, Illinois, Kentucky, Nebraska, Purdue and Toledo before picking the Cards.
