Pitino Post-Season Updates

Louisville coach Rick Pitino provided updates on his coaching staff, transfers, the injury status of Rakeem Buckles, Stephen Van Treese and Mike Marra, position changes for next season and more during his final 2011-12 press conference Monday afternoon. InsideTheVille.com has the highlights.

Peyton Siva and Luke Hancock will be co-captains next season. Hancock's leadership abilities "really stick out," Pitino said.

Pitino confirms that Richard Pitino will be introduced as the new coach at FIU today. Pitino said Richard felt comfortable recruiting Florida and felt that was why it was a great fit.

Pitino said he hopes to schedule FIU next season.

Elijah Justice is transferring to Pikeville. "He wants to play major minutes," Pitino said of the decision.

Jared Swopshire, as reported last week, will transfer to Northwestern for his senior season next year.

Pitino said Siva needs to get a "little tougher at times" because he wants to please everyone all the time.

Director of Operations Mark Lieberman will join Richard Pitino at FIU. Andre McGee will replace Lieberman, which creates an opening for a graduate assistant.

Pitino says Richard Pitino reminds him of Billy Donovan.

Pitino says there's not any reason to move real fast on finding a replacement. "We can take out time right now."

Wants somebody that will be a future head coach, good scout, good recruiter to replace Richard. Pitino says he has a "few" replacements in mind, but doesn't provide any names of potential candidates.

Pitino says Kevin Keatts will likely assume Richard's scouting, game planning role next year.

Pitino says fans haven't seen the "real" Kevin Ware that the staff sees in practice; and notes Ware will play on the wing next season, not point guard.

Pitino says team has a lot of "real good momentum" heading into next season after reaching the national semifinals.

Pitino says Wayne Blackshear and Chane Behanan must improve their outside shot. Says Gorgui Dieng has to improve strength and play at 250 pounds next season.

Pitino said Kyle Kuric and Chris Smith have aspirations of playing overseas.

Pitino says Rakeem Buckles won't play next season, and Mike Marra had more difficult surgery than Rakeem Buckles. Pitino said Stephen Van Treese will be healthy to play next season.

Pitino thinks Louisville will be much better offensively next season. Says Hancock is a very good player in all phases of the game, though needs improvement on defense. Says he can replace Kyle Kuric "without problem." Pitino says Louisville more than capable of replacing Kuric and Smith. Hancock will play guard.

Pitino says he wants Angel Nunez to backup Chane Behanan at the four and calls him the team's biggest gym rat and states he has as much potential as anybody on the roster.

Pitino said Louisville will be better on defense next season.

Pitino says shooting is a recruiting priority in 2013, and looking for a five man who can block shots. Pitino will be on the road recruiting later this week.

Pitino says he will discusses playing Indiana with Tom Crean this summer.
