While participating in Louisville's 7-on-7 camp Gathof helped guide the Colonels to the Final Four of the event, which included a victory of perennial state power Louisville Male. The following weekend Oldham County participated in Male's own 7-on-7 camp and once again they defeated the Bulldogs.
"I had a real good day that day," said Gathof of his performance at U of L's camp. "I had a chance to meet Coach Bobby Petrino and his brother Paul afterwards."
He returned from Tim Couch's passing camp on Wednesday evening and informed me that he spent time at both quarterback and receiver while there.
"I'll play both quarterback and receiver this year, but I'll play either safety or outside linebacker in college," explained Gathof.
Louisville, Kentucky, West Virginia, Kent State and Indiana are among the programs recruiting the talented linebacker. "I like UK and U of L equally right now. I really just want to keep all of my options open right now."
Gathof also told ITV on Wednesday evening that he is friends with a recent new addition to the Cardinals basketball program.
"I'm real good friends with Donta Smith," Gathof said of his former Oldham County teammate. "We play basketball together a lot in the open gym at school."
Oldham County, which is dropping from class 4A to 3A this upcoming season, opens its season against Male on August 24th at the Kickoff Classic at South Oldham High School.
