Class Impact: With Ross in the fold, Louisville's 2013 recruiting class now includes a trio of defensive backs. Ross, who will start off as a free safety for the Cardinals, joins four-star cornerback Ryan White and three-star Florida prospect Donel Elam, who projects as a free safety. In Ross and Elam, Strong already has secured commitments from a pair of talented Florida safety prospects who should form a capable last line of defense for the Cardinals in the future.
Scouting Report: One of the top rising prospects in Florida this spring, Ross is likely to see his offer sheet expand as more schools take a closer look this summer. A versatile prospect, the 6'2 Ross has impressive athletic ability and speed in the secondary. Though he'll probably start his college career as a 'post-safety,' Ross has the ability to come down to the box and make plays because of his physicality. At Florida, Charlie Strong preferred his safeties to be interchangeable parts, capable of playing either free or strong safety. Long and rangy, Ross could become one of those interchangeable guys, allowing Strong more flexibility in the secondary.
Who's left?: Even with three secondary commitments in hand, Louisville could add more secondary prospects in the 2013 recruiting class. The top players on the Cardinals recruiting board: Vernon Hargreaves, Scout.com's No. 1 ranked corner; Artie Burns, the No. 14 cornerback; Jalen Ramsey, No. 17 CB; Jamal Carter, No. 13 safety.
Final Take: Ross might not have been the top prospect on Louisville's recruiting board, but Charlie Strong's staff was clearly impressed enough to accept an early spring commitment from the rising prospect. Ross possesses the athleticism and toughness to thrive in Strong's attacking defense.
