Nick Dawson, one of Louisville's top-ranked 2012 signees, told InsideTheVille.com that he graduates from Charlotte (NC) Berry Academy June 9, and said his academics are in order to enroll at UofL. In fact, Dawson says he's already taking an online course offered through UofL.
"Everything [academically] is good," said Dawson. "I've already started my Anthropology class online at [UofL]."
Dawson says he's eager to get to Louisville and compete for a starting job at linebacker, but didn't know the specific date of his arrival.
"I'm trying to get up there as soon as possible," Dawson said.
That's a sentiment shared by the Louisville coaching staff, especially linebacker coach Brian Jean-Mary. Jean-Mary maintains frequent contact with the U.S. Army All-American linebacker, who is expected to make a big impact for the Cardinals defense this season.
"I've been lifting weights, but I've got to wait until I get up there to get in shape," said Dawson, who reported his weight at 238. "I keep in touch with Coach BJ and he wants me up there as soon as possible.
"They're going to put the best 11 guys on the field and I think I'll fit in. I might even start this year. There's a lot I can bring to the table. I'm a big linebacker so I can clog up the middle and help stop the run. Plus, I can jump so it will be harder for a quarterback for throw over the middle with me there."
Dawson is one of five 2012 signees who haven't already at UofL, joining DeAndre Herron, Larry Jefferson, Pedro Sibiea and Brandon Snell. Sibiea informed InsideTheVille.com he'll arrive at UofL no later than July 1, while Herron says he'll enroll July 27. Jefferson is taking summer classes that he needs to qualify and hopes to enroll at UofL next month. InsideTheVille.com has been able to verify Snell's current status.
