ABCD Underway

The adidas ABCD high school basketball camp got underway at the Rothman Center on the campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ  Sunday evening.

Players have been divided into twenty teams, each team comprised of ten members.  So if you're keeping score at home, that's 200 of the finest high school basketball players in the nation all playing under the same roof.

Sunday evening, each team was allowed one hour of practice time to get to know one another and begin preparation for the high stakes action later this week with collegiate coaches looking on.

Tomorrow players will spend most of the day focusing on academics before heading back to Rothman in the evening for their final workout before Tuesday's camp action gets underway.

News and Notes

The top three players from the state of Kentucky, Rajon Rondo, Chris Lofton and Terrance Farley, are all present and accounted for at ABCD.....

Rajon Rondo, one of the top prospects on Coach Pitino's recruiting board and Terrance Farley, a Louisville commit, are roommates at the Hilton this week......

Farley was accompanied by Pleasure Ridge Park Head Coach Dale Mabrey and long time assistant Larry Kihnley.......

Recruiters know Chris Lofton can shoot the basketball.  The question coaches and scouts often pose is whether or not he can slide over and play some point guard at the next level.  It looks as though he'll get his chance to prove himself this week because he spent nearly all the repetitions running the point for his team during the Sunday evening practice session....He looked good and made a slew of long range jumpers during the hour long workout......

6'10 Aaron Agnew of Bridgeport, OH and 6'11 Clarence Holloway, a junior from Chicago Fenger High will be teaming with 6'8 Josh Smith of Atlanta, GA this week to form a solid frontcourt at ABCD....Holloway, who attended Coach Pitino's Individual Instruction camp two weeks ago, more than held his own working out against the older Agnew.......

While listed at 6'10, Agnew stood at least two inches shorter than Holloway........

Sebastian Telfair completed a quiet workout during the early practice session at ABCD........

Marvin Williams walked by us with his adidas in hand and ice bag taped to his right ankle......

Taylor King, a 6'6 8th grader who we wrote about first last month at the Tournament of Champions continues to impress with his skill and savvy for a youngster.  King will attend Mater Dei High School in Los Angeles next year and he'll certainly make more of a national name for himself this weekend.......

Nolan Smith is also in attendance and appears to have grown since we last saw him over the Memorial Day weekend at the TOC......
